Everything you need to play, and how to reach a human when you don't.

Getting started

No account, sign-up, or email is required. Open the app and tap Play as guest — an identity is created on your device and your games are kept there. Choose where you begin among 57 jurisdictions, declare your starting worth, and make your first move for the year 2000.

How a turn works

Each year asks four questions, in order: Business (what you build and where), Savings (what you hold and in which currency), Tax residency (where you live on paper), and Citizenship (which passport, and your political stance). Answer all four, commit, and the year resolves against real history. Anything you don't change carries forward, so a steady year is a single tap.

Frequently asked

Do I need an account?

No. Play is anonymous by default — your identity and games live on your device. There is no password to lose and nothing to sign up for.

How does multiplayer work?

Host a world and share its invite code; friends join from a fresh install. Play is asynchronous — your year resolves the moment you commit, and everyone moves at their own pace. There are no clocks and no one is ever kicked. You can join a world that's already running and still start in 2000; the Hall of Fame ranks by capital multiple, not size, so a late start loses nothing.

Where do the numbers come from?

Every gain and loss is grounded in the historical record — real index returns, exchange rates, and rules for the year in question. Tap any result to see its source. If a figure looks wrong, use Flag this number and it will be reviewed; corrections are applied to the underlying data and the affected game is recalculated.

What does the purchase unlock?

The first years are free to play. A one-time, per-game in-app purchase unlocks the back half of the century (2013–2025). Everything you played before the purchase — your ledger, your rank, your receipts — stays yours.

Restoring a purchase

Open Settings → Restore purchase. Purchases are tied to your Apple Account; signing in with the same Apple Account restores access.

Languages

The app is available in English, Estonian, and Russian, and follows your device language.

Which devices?

History XXI runs on iPhone and iPad. On iPad it uses the full width — your games, the year's move, and the receipts side by side on one desk.
