Last updated: 25 July 2026

The short version: no account, no ads, no third-party tracking. We keep only what the game needs to work.

Who we are

History XXI (“the app”) is made by Onym (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the app collects, why, and your choices. Questions: lead@onym.app.

No account required

You do not create an account, and we do not ask for your email, phone number, or real name. On first launch the app creates an anonymous guest identity so your games can be saved and resumed. You may set a display name; it is shown to other players in a shared game and is entirely your choice.

What we collect

We do not collect contacts, location, photos, health data, advertising identifiers, or device fingerprints, and we run no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

AI-generated text

The app generates written material — the year's briefing, the readable narration of results, and your end-of-game chronicle — and classifies the free text you enter (e.g. mapping “solar farm” to a sector). To do this, the relevant gameplay content (and, in the chronicle, your display name) is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, and processed solely to produce that text. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, this content is not used to train their models.

Payments

Purchases (the one-time unlock for the back half of a game) are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card details. The app verifies Apple's purchase receipt with our server to record that a game is unlocked.

Where your data is processed

Game data is stored on our server, hosted with DigitalOcean in the European Union (Amsterdam). AI processing is performed by Anthropic (United States). Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).

How long we keep it

We keep your games while they exist so you (and co-players) can play and review them. Finished runs may remain on the public Hall of Fame under your display name. You can ask us to delete your data at any time — see below.

Your choices & rights

Children

History XXI is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll post the new version here and update the date above.
